LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

District News

You are cordially invited to attend the Whitehall-Coplay School District ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Family Night.

It will be held 6-8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Nov. 8, at the middle school.

School bus stopping law: All licensed Pennsylvania drivers are reminded to obey the school bus stopping law.

Drivers traveling in both directions must come to a complete stop whenever a school bus has its red signals flashing or the arm bar extended.

The only exception is when the bus is on the opposite side of a highway with a clearly defined physical barrier between the lanes moving in each direction.

You must stop if only a yellow line separates lanes of travel. You must stop at an intersection whether or not it is marked with a stop sign. All traffic must stop at least 10 feet away from the school bus.

Antibullying presentation: Third-grade students will attend a special presentation Nov. 9 as part of the antibullying campaign.

Mikayla is a child from the Lehigh Valley whose family now uses her story to educate other children about acceptance and inclusion.

The Mikayla's Voice website develops and supports inclusive programs that educate, inspire and empower kids of all ages and abilities. It seeks to educate kids about inclusion and its importance.

Steckel on Twitter: You can now get important Steckel news by following the school's Twitter feed posts.

To get started, just click on the button in the left margin of the Steckel link on the district website.

Steckel program: The Bottom Dollar Food Classroom Connections Program is designed to help Steckel Elementary School students earn educational equipment for their school.

If you don't have a Bottom Dollar Food Membership Card, get one at any store customer service counter or online at www.bottomdollarfood. com.

To register your card go to the Bottom Dollar website and click on Community News and then on Classroom Connections. The George D. Steckel Elementary School code is 52820.

Then, whenever you shop at Bottom Dollar Food and use your membership card, Steckel Elementary will automatically receive credit.

School board meeting: The public is invited to the next Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12.

Zephyr family portraits: Christmas City Studio will once again be at Zephyr to photograph individuals or families, including pets, for holiday gift giving.

The photos will be taken Nov. 19-21.

Appointments can be scheduled for the afternoons and early evenings by calling the Zephyr main office at 610-871-3671. There is a fee.
