Every year, Alburtis bestows the honor of "May Day Queen" on a high school senior who is recognized at the annual Lockridge May Festival during the Lockridge Theatre Group's Renaissance performance at the Lockridge Furnace property ruins.
This year the May Day Queen will go down in history as the Alburtis Centennial Queen. This year's May Festival is being held May 12, 2013 as part of Alburtis' 100th birthday celebration.
The Centennial Queen must be a senior in high school, must reside within the borough of Alburtis and must be available to reign over various functions during Centennial weekend.
Applications can be picked up from Alburtis Borough Hall; the application and a 250-word essay (focused on their contributions to and memories of the borough) are due back at Borough Hall no later than noon Oct. 25.
Applications will be reviewed by the Centennial event committee and a winner chosen at the end of November. A photograph of the Centennial Queen will be included in the Alburtis Centennial Book, published the end of this year.
The Alburtis Centennial Celebration will be held May 10 to 12, 2013.
