The Emmaus Kiwanis Club is holding its annual fruit and pie sale fundraiser. The club has been holding this sale for more than 15 years. The Emmaus Garden Club invites you to attend its program, "The Role of the Wildlands Conservancy in Our Community," presented by Chris Kocher, the conservancy's president, Nov. 6 at Faith Presbyterian Church, North Second and Cherokee streets. Doors open noon, refreshments are served and the program starts 1 p.m. Refreshments will be presented as an autumn tea party, so attendees are invited to come wearing their fancy hats and gloves and join the fun. The Emmaus Historical Society will hold its November meeting 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at St. John's Lutheran Church. This is a change in the group's regular meeting date due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The program is a tribute to World War II veterans and a description of the making of the society's "Emmaus' World War II Book."
The society is still taking orders for shoofly pies. Deadline is Nov. 2. Pies will be available for pick up at the Nov. 14 meeting. To order, call the museum at 610-966-6591.
The society's museum, 563 Chestnut St., which is open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays, will also be open 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28. Curbside leaf collection began Oct. 15, and continues through Dec.7. During this time, the compost site will be open 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or dusk Wednesdays; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The borough offices and the compost center will be closed Nov. 22 and 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
All senior citizens over the age of 55 are invited to the Emmaus Senior Citizens meetings at St. Matthew's E.C. Church, Ridge and Fifth streets. The group meets 1 p.m. Fridays. November programs include Nov. 2, music by the Hope Gospel Quartet and auction day so attendees should bring an item for auctioning; Nov. 9, a celebration of Veteran's Day so attendees are asked to wear red, white and blue colors; Nov. 16, the singing group Kids of America perform. The Emmaus Public Library will be closed Nov. 22 for the holiday. Mark your calendars for the Friends of the Emmaus Public Library's special holiday book sale and reception 6 p.m. Nov. 30 and storytelling programs included in Emmaus' Old Fashioned Christmas festival events 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 1. Children's fall programs including Suns Story Time, Stars and Rainbows Story Times and Second and Third Grade Reading Adventures continue at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. The Emmaus Farmers Market, KNBT parking lot, 235 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday until Nov. 18 rain or shine. Beginning the week after Thanksgiving, the market will be open 10 a.m. to noon every Sunday until New Year's and then every other Sunday in 2013 until the market starts up again. More details will be forthcoming in the upcoming weeks at the market.
Run Lehigh Valley will host the Emmaus Fall Classic 3.5 mile race from the farmers market site beginning 9:30 a.m. Nov. 18. Registration closes Nov. 15. For information, visit runlehighvalley.com.
There is good news from the Shelter House Society. The springhouse restoration project on the property has entered the second phase. Excavation to the original level has been completed and the group is preparing to begin construction of the canopy. Also the society is planning a memorial herb garden in honor of Merrilee Levin, a loyal board member who died this year.
Be sure to mark your calendar for Emmaus' Old Fashioned Christmas celebration Dec. 1. The historic houses will be open noon to 4 p.m. and the Emmaus Historical Society will have extended hours 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This event also features horse and carriage rides and holiday music on the Triangle.
