Central Catholic column

CCHS faculty and students have once again come together to continue the Central City Project.

An organization started two years ago by John Gribowhich, the Central City Project serves to aid Central Catholic students in developing a stronger connection to the surrounding community through multiple events and service. The project is now headed by Patrick Markham and Anthony Clifford, members of the theology and English departments at CCHS, respectively.

The organization's most recent project is the Viking Salsa. A truly homemade creation, this salsa is made by the students themselves in the kitchen of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Multiple Central students from all grades work in the kitchen after school, preparing every aspect of the salsa, including washing and cutting tomatoes, picking parsley and even jarring the finished product.

Both a mild and a hot version are available for purchase at most Central Catholic sports and social events. The students are also creating a Viking Hot Sauce which will also be on sale soon. All proceeds from the salsa are used to fund future Central City Project events.

The project also serves the community through its Wednesday night dinners. A tradition started last year, this event is held at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Soup Kitchen about three times a month.

Central students and teachers join together as waiters and cooks in an attempt to create a restaurant-like atmosphere for underprivileged families living in the area. These dinners were very popular in the past, seeing up to 100 customers on several occasions.
