Good Shepherd Elementary School, Northampton, began its second year of operations with Irene Quigley as school principal.
Quigley, who previously served in the same capacity at Christ the King, said the enrollment for kindergarten through eighth grade is 282 boys and girls, which mirrors the enrollment for the 2011-12 school year.
While computers have been part of the curriculum at the school for years, Quigley said Good Shepherd now has a new computer laboratory. Computer technology is taught at all grade levels, from kindergarten through eighth grade.
The future at Good Shepherd School is promising, school officials said. Kindergarten, mainly for 5-and 6-year-olds, has a total enrollment of 27 children. The first grade enrollment stands at 21 students.
Teachers at the school are lay individuals. Years back, St. Peter's and the former Our Lady of Hungary teachers were Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart.
With the teaching educators in place, Good Shepherd has added an advancement teacher to its rolls.
Parents sending their children to Good Shepherd come from the Catholic parishes of Holy Trinity, Egypt; St.John the Baptist, Stiles; St. Peter's, Coplay; the former St. John Elementary School; Northampton; and Blessed Virgin Mary, Northampton.
Good Shepherd merged the parochial schools of Christ the King, Coplay, and Our Lady of Hungary, Northampton.
