The school district recently sent out notification to parents informing them about West Nile Virus and the importance of taking precautions to prevent spreading. The virus is spread through infected mosquitoes biting humans and the best way to prevent the virus is to avoid being bitten. Reduce your exposure to mosquitoes by using bug spray, making sure exposed areas are covered and limiting or avoiding outdoor activities when mosquitoes are most active. Everyone should eliminate or treat breeding sites (standing water) around the home.
Symptoms of the virus include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, headache, lack of appetite, muscle aches, nausea, rash, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and vomiting.
