ArtsQuest and more than one dozen area restaurants team up for the Appetizer Bowl, 4 - 7 p.m. Aug. 26, Musikfest Café, ArtsQuest Center, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.

Appetizers, dips and finger foods will be served in six different categories: Cheesiest, Seafood-based, Dips & Spreads, Veggie-based, Meat-based and Sauciest Couple (wings and sauce).

Attendees may sample and vote for their favorite in the "People's Choice" category. A judging panel will determine winners in the six appetizer categories.

Restaurants confirmed are Bethlehem Brew Works, Cosmopolitan, The Farmhouse Restaurant, The Gyro Company, Iron Lakes Country Club, Musikfest Café, Sagra Bistro, Sangria and Spiro's Family Restaurant.

Proceeds benefit ArtsQuest's Arts Education Fund.

Good Shepherd grant: Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network's Pediatric Program has received a $15,000 grant from The Wells Fargo Foundation for pediatric programming, physician and therapist services, purchase of assistive technology for learning, reading and alternative communication and charitable care.

"Good Shepherd's outpatient pediatric program is such a wonderful resource for children and their families," said Cindy Garcia, personal banker, Wells Fargo. "It's been there for my daughter and it's been there for other Wells Fargo team members, too."

Almost 40 percent of pediatric patients receive some sort of charity care because their families have no insurance or simply cannot afford to pay for their child's therapy. The grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation will help in the effort to improve access to these vital services for more children.

Good Shepherd Pediatrics provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation to children with a variety of physical or cognitive conditions, including autism, developmental delays, neuromuscular disease, stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries or multiple traumas. Good Shepherd's Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Program offers the services of the only two board-certified developmental pediatricians in the Lehigh Valley region.

Cancer Support: The Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley presents the 5th Annual Wings of Hope, 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8, Cedar Crest College, 100 College Drive, Allentown.

The free, 90-minute event includes music entertainment by Melody for Humanity, children's crafts and activities, refreshments, and a sale of butterfly-themed items. Rob Vaughan of WFMZ Channel 69 is emcee.

At noon Sept. 8, there will be 250 Monarch butterflies, which are symbols of transformation, released in honor of those affected by cancer.

"This wonderful event is a meaningful and touching recognition of our loved ones, friends, and co-workers. Nine thousand people are diagnosed with cancer each year in the Lehigh Valley, and we stand with every one of them," said Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley Interim Director Elizabeth Scofield.

In advance of the event, you may donate $10 to sponsor a paper butterfly, inscribed with a loved one's name. These butterflies are pinned to curtains and displayed at the event. The butterflies, embedded with wildflower seeds, can be taken home and planted, to grow into butterfly-attracting wildflowers.
